About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an Operations Technician to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.

The Operations Technician works in the areas of utilities and product storage to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent plant operations, in compliance with relevant safety codes, government regulations, and product quality standards. The Operator Technician is expected to pursue further training and certifications for advancement within Methanex Medicine Hat's progression system. 

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating, monitoring, starting up, and shutting down boilers and related plant equipment using computerized and manual systems
  • Monitoring alarms, gauges, instruments, and operating conditions to ensure safe and efficient plant performance
  • Isolating and locking out mechanical and electrical equipment for maintenance, inspection, and repair activities
  • Testing, regenerating, and maintaining water treatment systems to ensure a continuous supply of demineralized water
  • Collecting and analyzing boiler water samples and supporting chemical treatment processes
  • Maintaining operational logs, developing isolation packages, and submitting maintenance work requests
  • Coordinating maintenance and operational activities with cross-functional departments and contractors
  • Taking preventive and corrective actions to minimize equipment failures, safety incidents, and environmental impacts
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, safety standards, and site-specific operational policies
  • Supporting emergency response activities, safety meetings, and incident reporting processes
  • Training, mentoring, and orienting new employees and summer students on procedures and safe work practices
  • Completing ongoing technical training and certification requirements within Methanex’s progression system

About You

To qualify, you will need a 3rd Class Power Engineer certification and a two-year post-secondary diploma in Power Engineering Technology. Experience in a petrochemical plant, refinery, or related industrial environment will also be essential. 

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Active progression toward the next class of Power Engineer certification
  • Experience with water treatment processes, high-pressure steam generation, or steam/methane reforming
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and web-based applications
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required
  • Experience working within regulated industrial environments and safety standards
  • Familiarity with ABSA, ASME, OHS, CSA, and environmental compliance requirements
