About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an Instrument and Electrical Engineer to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will support the design, implementation, and optimization of instrumentation, control, and electrical systems across the full project lifecycle, while providing technical expertise to site operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing engineering design documentation for instrumentation, electrical, and control system changes
  • Designing and coordinating PLC, SIS, and DCS system modifications and upgrades
  • Sizing, selecting, and procuring instrumentation and electrical equipment
  • Overseeing installation, testing, commissioning, and startup of new and upgraded systems
  • Maintaining and updating IEC documentation, including databases, drawings, and control logic
  • Managing assigned projects from initiation through execution to closeout
  • Applying Management of Change (MOC) and capital project processes for plant modifications
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting for instrumentation, electrical, and control system issues
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on project priorities and execution
  • Supporting turnarounds and contributing to plant improvement initiatives
  • Participating in hazard assessments, risk reviews, and root cause analyses
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable engineering codes, standards, and safety regulations

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Industrial Controls, or a related discipline, and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or be an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) actively progressing toward designation. A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in instrumentation, control systems, and electrical design within an industrial environment will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience with valve sizing and instrumentation selection tools
  • Familiarity with control systems such as Triconex and DeltaV
  • Project management experience supporting small to medium-sized projects
  • Experience in gas processing, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code, ISA, IEC)
