About the Opportunity
Methanex is currently seeking a Process Engineering Summer Student to join our team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a 4-month term.
Reporting to the Process Engineering team, this temporary four-month opportunity provides hands-on experience supporting plant operations, process performance, and continuous improvement initiatives in a safety-focused industrial environment.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting process engineers in monitoring plant performance, operating conditions, and key parameters
- Gathering and analyzing data to identify trends, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities
- Assisting with troubleshooting process issues under the guidance of experienced engineers
- Contributing to the development and updating of process documentation, procedures, and reports
- Supporting process safety initiatives, including participating in hazard reviews and risk assessments
- Tracking and documenting Process Safety Management (PSM) actions and follow-ups
- Assisting with calculations, basic modelling, and technical analysis for process-related projects
- Participating in turnaround and outage planning and execution activities
- Conducting field walkdowns to collect operational data and verify plant conditions
- Applying fundamental process engineering principles in a practical industrial setting
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support multiple projects and build technical knowledge
- Adhering to Methanex safety standards and Responsible Care® principles, including participating in safety programs
About You
To qualify, you will need to be currently enrolled in a Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering degree program and have completed at least your second or third year of study. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Basic understanding of process engineering principles and fundamentals
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Exposure to process simulation or modelling tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS)
- Demonstrated interest in process safety, plant operations, or industrial environments
