About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking an Engineering Summer Student - Mechanical/Instrument & Electrical to join our team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a 4-month term.

Reporting to the Engineering team, this role supports plant operations by assisting with technical, analytical, and field-based activities while gaining hands-on experience with mechanical, instrumentation, control, and electrical systems in an industrial environment.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting engineers with technical tasks and field-based activities related to plant operations and equipment
  • Monitoring equipment and system performance and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Assisting with troubleshooting activities under the guidance of experienced engineers
  • Supporting engineering projects through data collection, tracking, documentation, and coordination
  • Preparing and updating technical documentation, drawings, and reports
  • Assisting in developing scopes of work, schedules, and basic cost estimates
  • Supporting Management of Change (MOC) and Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP) documentation and tracking
  • Participating in turnaround and outage planning and execution activities
  • Collecting and analyzing operational and maintenance data to support engineering decisions
  • Conducting field walkdowns and inspections to assess equipment condition and gather information
  • Supporting reliability and continuous improvement initiatives across the site
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams while applying fundamental engineering principles in a practical environment

About You

To qualify, you will need to be currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related engineering degree program, along with completion of at least your second or third year of study at an accredited university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Exposure to engineering tools or systems such as CAD software, DCS/PLC, or other analysis tools
  • Demonstrated interest in industrial operations, maintenance, or plant environments
  • Foundational understanding of engineering principles relevant to mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation disciplines
