About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.

The Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical is responsible for validating and developing mechanical designs through the Management of Change (MOC) process under Maintenance Engineering. This includes providing technical guidance and implementing design modifications to support plant reliability.

The role also supports the monitoring of the plant reliability framework by identifying risks that could impact plant or business operations and delivering strategies, analyses, and solutions to measure and improve performance.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

• Provide mechanical and piping designs for low-risk plant modifications and upgrades
• Review and verify the design integrity of low-risk mechanical equipment
• Support materials selection to minimize costs and maximize facility reliability and maintainability
• Provide technical support to Maintenance and Operations for emergency changes and equipment issues
• Respond to management requests related to mechanical engineering matters
• Apply appropriate codes, standards, calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and specifications
• Analyze asset and plant performance to identify high maintenance costs and reliability risks, confirm management strategies, and ensure predictive methods are in place to detect and isolate problems
• Utilize the Management of Change (MOC) procedure to develop and execute engineering solutions to equipment failures and other issues impacting plant reliability
• Conduct reliability analysis using data analysis tools (e.g., statistical modelling, reliability modelling, fault tree analysis, Weibull analysis) and root cause analysis
• Provide input into risk assessments for equipment and system performance
• Develop, maintain, and improve systems to measure and monitor the reliability of plants, equipment, components, and processes
• Measure and report overall equipment effectiveness and other key parameters affecting reliability, operating condition, and asset costs
• Apply value analysis to repair/replace, redesign, or manufacture/purchase decisions using reliability tools
• Collaborate with Technical and Project teams to ensure new or modified equipment meets reliability and maintainability requirements throughout its lifecycle
• Work with Maintenance and Technical teams to develop and execute the annual department plan, ensuring alignment with the Medicine Hat business plan and Corporate Strategy
• Lead or contribute to global and local projects

About You

To qualify, you will need an undergraduate degree with a major in an engineering discipline, with registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, and 8+ years of related industrial experience, with at least 2 years in a reliability-related role. 

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

• Experience with incident investigation (e.g. Tap Root)
• Experience with reliability analysis/modelling 
• 6+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering
• Familiarity with industry codes and regulations, as well as mechanical engineering practices
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
