About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer - Electrical & Instrumentation to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.

The Maintenance Engineer - Electrical & Instrumentation is responsible for validating and engineering designs through the Management of Change (MOC) process within Maintenance Engineering. This includes providing technical solutions and implementing modifications to electrical and instrumentation designs that enhance plant reliability.

The successful candidate also supports the plant reliability framework by identifying risks that may impact operations and delivering reliability strategies, analyses, and solutions to measure and improve overall plant performance.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide electrical and instrumentation designs for low-risk plant modifications and upgrades
  • Review and verify the design integrity of low-risk electrical and instrumentation equipment
  • Support material selection to minimize costs and maximize facility reliability and maintainability
  • Provide technical support to Maintenance and Operations during emergency changes and equipment issues
  • Respond to management requests related to electrical and instrumentation engineering matters
  • Apply appropriate codes, standards, calculations, and specifications
  • Analyze asset and plant reliability data to identify issues, confirm management strategies, and ensure effective use of predictive methods to isolate inherent reliability problems
  • Utilize the Management of Change (MOC) procedure to provide and execute engineering solutions to equipment failures and other reliability issues
  • Apply reliability and root cause analysis tools (e.g., statistical modeling, reliability prediction, fault tree analysis, Weibull analysis)
  • Contribute to risk assessments of equipment and systems
  • Collaborate across departments to evaluate asset performance and determine improvement opportunities
  • Develop, maintain, and improve systems to measure the reliability of plants, equipment, components, and processes
  • Measure and report on overall equipment effectiveness and other factors affecting asset reliability and cost
  • Provide asset management support to enhance plant and equipment availability and performance
  • Apply value analysis in repair/replace, redesign, or manufacture/purchase decisions using reliability tools
  • Work with Technical and Project teams to ensure new or modified equipment meets reliability and maintainability requirements across its lifecycle
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Technical teams in developing and executing the annual department plan, ensuring alignment with the business plan and Corporate Strategy
  • Lead and/or support global and local projects

About You

To qualify, you will need an undergraduate degree with a major in an engineering discipline, with registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA, and 8+ years of related industrial experience, with at least 2 years in a reliability-related role. 

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience with incident investigation (e.g. Tap Root)
  • Experience with reliability analysis/modelling 
  • 6+ years’ experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering
  • Familiarity with industry codes and regulations, as well as electrical and instrumentation engineering practices
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
