About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB on a full-time basis. 

The Laboratory Technician analyses methanol product and water treatment samples, as well as in-process and environmental samples to ensure quality control, and expediently reports results. 

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducts precise and timely collection and analysis of methanol, process, water treatment, and environmental samples to ensure data accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Identifies abnormal analytical results, initiates investigations, and communicates findings to appropriate stakeholders
  • Adheres to laboratory best practices by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), product testing protocols, and environmental permit requirements
  • Performs Certificate of Analysis (CoA) testing with a focus on data integrity, quality standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Monitors quality control charts, identifies trends or anomalies, and implements corrective actions to uphold lab reliability
  • Operates, maintains, and calibrates laboratory instruments, and liaises with vendors for repair and technical support
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records, completes daily operational reports, and ensures lab cleanliness and organization
  • Provides analytical support for non-routine testing, special projects, and plant turnarounds
  • Completes all required training and actively contributes to a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality excellence
  • Demonstrates professionalism and integrity, aligned with Methanex values and Responsible Care® principles

About You

To qualify, you will need to possess an undergraduate degree in science, with Chemistry as a preferred discipline, or a post-secondary diploma in Chemical Technology, along with 5 years of related laboratory experience. 

Additionally, the following assets would be preferred, but not required:

  • Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry
  • Experience working with quality programs, such as ISO 14000+ or higher
  • Quality audit training
  • Laboratory-related health, safety, and environment training
  • Experience with a Laboratory Information Management System (LMIS) 
  • Strong practical lab skills, including solution/standard prep, volumetric techniques, and chromatography exposure
  • Knowledge of quality control in product analysis and laboratory practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to maintain accurate and organized records
