About the Opportunity
Methanex is currently seeking a Manager, Responsible Care to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.
The Manager, Responsible Care is a key leadership role accountable for the strategic oversight and operational excellence of the Responsible Care function at Methanex. As a member of the Site Management Team, the Manager leads the development and execution of site-level HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality) strategies and programs that align with corporate objectives and Responsible Care® principles.
This role champions a strong safety culture, drives process safety and emergency preparedness, and ensures regulatory compliance through proactive leadership and cross-functional collaboration with departments and the Global Responsible Care Team (GRCT). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-impact HSSEQ initiatives, managing departmental resources, and achieving key performance indicators to support the safe, reliable, and sustainable operation of the site.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development and execution of Responsible Care strategies, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, site priorities, and regulatory expectations
- Overseeing the implementation of world-class HSSEQ systems to foster a strong safety culture and maintain regulatory compliance
- Building and mentoring a high-performing, cross-functional Responsible Care team through coaching, training, and succession planning
- Ensuring the site is fully prepared for emergency situations through training, resource planning, and management of the Emergency Response Plan
- Leading the investigation and reporting of incidents, using findings to drive continuous improvement and risk mitigation
- Developing and tracking meaningful performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing results, and initiating corrective actions to improve site HSSEQ outcomes
- Managing the Responsible Care operational and capital budgets to ensure cost effectiveness and alignment with strategic and operational goals
- Representing Methanex in industry groups such as CIAC and GRCT, contributing to advocacy efforts, knowledge sharing, and alignment with global best practices
- Acting as the site’s designated compliance contact for environmental, safety, and process integrity legislation, ensuring all requirements are met and communicated
- Collaborating closely with Engineering, Projects, Production, and other departments to proactively assess and manage risks across all site activities
About You
To qualify, you will need a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering and a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in a petrochemical facility or similar industrial environment. At least 5 years of experience leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Management, or Business
- Formal training or certification in HSE, Process Safety Management, or Emergency Response
- Strong understanding of EHS regulations and standards
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing EHS systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant operational software
- Experience in plant operations or familiarity with petrochemical processes
