About the Opportunity
Methanex is currently seeking an Instrument and Electrical Engineer to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB, on a full-time basis.
The Instrument and Electrical Engineer designs and coordinates instrumentation, control systems, and electrical projects across all stages: research, planning, execution, commissioning, and closeout. This role also provides technical expertise to resolve plant issues related to instrumentation, electrical, and control/safety systems.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Design and modify PLCs, safety PLCs (SIS), DCS, electrical systems, and field devices for projects
- Size, select, procure, and oversee installation and commissioning of equipment
- Maintain site instrument database, specification sheets, and electrical layout/logic drawings
- Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., Maintenance, Operations) to ensure knowledge transfer
- Develop an understanding of plant equipment design concepts (e.g., pumps, reformers)
- Utilize MOC and MCMP procedures to manage plant changes and project progression
- Manage projects through all lifecycle stages, ensuring safe and successful completion
- Provide technical support and guidance on instrumentation, control systems, and electrical systems
- Participate in hazard meetings, reliability initiatives, and root cause analysis
- Ensure compliance with Methanex policies, applicable standards, and HR procedures
- Mentor team members, communicate activities, and support department planning
- Adhere to relevant codes (e.g., Canadian Electrical Code, ISA, IEC1151) and contribute to Methanex’s global vision
About You
To qualify, you will need a Bachelor's degree in industrial controls, electrical engineering, or a related field, with registration as an EIT or Professional Engineer with APEGA, along with the following:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in control systems, instrumentation, and electrical design
- In-depth knowledge of industry codes, regulations, and best practices
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with valve and instrument sizing software is an asset
- Familiarity with Triconex and DeltaV systems is a plus
- Project management experience is an advantage
- Experience in gas processing facilities is highly desirable
