About the Opportunity
Methanex is currently seeking a Project Accountant - Turnaround to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB. This is a temporary position with an estimated end date of June 30, 2025.
In this role, you will be responsible for configuring and training users on the E-LEM system to track contractor hours and spending for the 2025 Turnaround. You will also update financial models and prepare reports for the TAR Finance Lead.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Develop budget estimates, prepare forecasts, and maintain budget tracking in alignment with project Authorization for Expenditure, ensuring forecast accuracy through EVM analysis and supporting project leads in financial planning
- Monitor financial performance by tracking constraints, overspending, and preparing daily reports for the Turnaround Finance Lead, while identifying E-LEM enhancements and improving financial reporting procedures
- Maintain internal schedules, project timelines, and key project documents like charters and risk assessments
- Configure, test, and track E-LEM data, ensuring accuracy and continuous improvement, while extracting and validating data from ATOM software for integration into financial models
- Train and support project leads, contractors, and stakeholders on the E-LEM system, ensuring effective use and troubleshooting while collaborating on financial processes, data transfer, and system enhancements
- Address additional tasks and requests from the Turnaround Finance Lead while maintaining ongoing communication about project status
- Conduct business in alignment with Methanex values, Responsible Care® ethics, and corporate vision
About You
To qualify, you will need to be currently enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting or Finance, or possess an equivalent combination of relevant certification and experience. A strong ability to analyze data, identify trends, and provide insightful financial assessments will also be essential.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Adobe Photoshop
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely
- Experience working with financial systems and reporting tools
- Adaptability to handle urgent requests and shifting priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development
