About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a Financial Analyst, Manufacturing to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB. 

The Financial Analyst provides analytical and financial expertise for the Methanex Medicine Hat site facilitating informed business decisions and effective management of resources. This role will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies and sound governance.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Deliver management reviews of financial position
  • Collaborate with managers to develop cost management strategies
  • Maintain accurate general ledger balances and prepare journal entries
  • Stay updated on IFRS and Accounting Standards
  • Review and approve Authorization for Expenditures (AFE’s)
  • Liaise with project managers for timely project close-outs
  • Provide monthly capital program and project status reports
  • Act as a change agent for Financial and Asset Management systems
  • Coordinate annual site capital plan, production, and budget submissions

About You

To qualify, you will need to possess a post-secondary degree in business, economics, finance, or accounting, along with 5+ years of experience in relevant accounting positions including demonstrated experience in general ledger, budgets, reporting, and financial analysis.

Additionally, the following assets would be preferred, but not required:

  • Completion or enrollment in a professional accounting designation program
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation
  • Financial, analytical, research, and communication skills; ability to question results and not accept information at face value
  • Possess the aptitude to run and use specific systems such as Oracle
  • Strong working knowledge of financial systems/applications, excellent Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (i.e., pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
  • Demonstrated success in leading a team and developing direct reports
