About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a 4th Year Apprentice Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB on a full-time basis. 

The 4th Year Apprentice Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) provides superior craftsmanship in the safe, efficient, and effective maintenance and repair of rotating equipment systems in the Medicine Hat plant.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Install, maintain, and repair rotating equipment including turbines, compressors, fans, pumps, and gearboxes
  • Perform predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance using procedures such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, precision laser alignment, and various other maintenance techniques
  • Perform time-based equipment procedures such as inspections, oil changes, filter changes, overhauls, and greasing
  • React efficiently to equipment failures or reliability issues while keeping safety and quality as a top priority
  • Document equipment history and complete detailed reporting of equipment inspections and repairs
  • Build strong relationships with key Rotating Equipment vendors
  • Read and interpret equipment and process drawings
  • Manage equipment-specific manuals and history
  • Acts as relief rotating equipment supervisor, when required
  • Effectively communicate current activities and policies
  • Improve individual and organizational performance through coaching for success
  • Oversee crews during shutdowns and in demanding circumstances
  • Conduct Safety audits, participate in site safety meetings, and contribute to site safety initiatives
  • Contribute to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and the power of agility
  • Propose ideas to improve plant performance and reliability
  • Participate in the response to plant emergencies, including after-hours events, as required
  • Conduct all business in a manner that supports the Responsible Care® ethic

About You

To qualify, you must be enrolled in an apprentice program as a 4th year, with the ability to complete schooling in 2024. 

Additionally, the following assets would be preferred, but not required:

  • Certification in First Aid, Confined Space, Fall Protection, or other relevant safety and trade-specific training 
  • Experience working in a chemical plant atmosphere
  • Knowledge of steam turbines and other types of rotating equipment such as compressors, fans, pumps, and gearboxes
  • Experience with alignment tools such as lasers and dials
  • Solid precision measuring skills
  • Understanding of basic vibration analysis
