About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a full-time Senior Financial Analyst to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB.

The Senior Financial Analyst provides analytical and financial expertise to the Medicine Hat site, facilitating informed business decisions and effective management of resources. This role will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and sound governance. 

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement project control plans, procedures, and processes for effective project management
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and guidelines
  • Oversee project cost estimates and budgets
  • Track project progress and prepare reports for stakeholders
  • Identify and analyze project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within scope, budget, and schedule
  • Maintain project management documentation
  • Lead project cost reviews and recommend process improvements
  • Coordinate with other departments and teams to align project goals and utilize resources effectively
  • Facilitate communication between stakeholders and team members
  • Review Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs) for completeness and reasonableness
  • Obtain approvals per company policy prior to activating AFEs in systems
  • Ensure timely close-outs of projects
  • Provide monthly reporting on capital program, project status, and costs
  • Prepare capital spend and cash flow forecast updates
  • Maintain fixed assets register and depreciation schedules
  • Provide depreciation estimates for site forecast
  • Coordinate annual site capital plan and monthly/quarterly capital forecasts
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports
  • Evaluate commercial agreements and perform economic evaluations for projects

About You

To qualify, you will need a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, or accounting, and 10+ years of experience, ideally in a manufacturing/petrochemicals environment with project controls experience, along with the following assets:

  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
  • A Master’s degree in finance, economics, or business administration will be considered an asset
  • Experience analyzing financial statements, modeling financial scenarios, and making financial projections
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and standards, particularly International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and financial statement preparation
  • Experience with Peoplesoft Financials
  • Strong working knowledge of financial systems/applications, excellent Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (i.e., pivot tables, VLOOKUP)
