About the Opportunity

Methanex is currently seeking a qualified Product Handler to join our team in Medicine Hat, Alberta. This is a temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31st 2020.

As our new Product Handler, you'll perform shipping and logistics duties to ensure that all company policies, procedures, and government regulations are met, with regard to railcar and truck loading/shipping, intraplant switching, rail track inspection, operating a track mobile to move railcars, bills of lading, customs documents, and inventory management. The duties of this role ensure that methanol production and shipping volumes balance and that product reaches customers within the allocated time frame.

More specifically your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Preparing rail tracks to ensure all safety measures have been put into place prior to loading.
  • Ensuring railcars are grounded and bonded to prevent sparks.
  • Securing railcars to avoid leaks while in transit.
  • Ensuring competency of Accuload system, valves for loading and off-loading lines, and troubleshooting said areas.
  • Ensuring loading documentation is accurate to promote correct information transfer to shipping documentation.
  • Ensuring railcars are vented using the vapour recovery system.
  • Using a track mobile, moving railcars between the loading and storage tracks and aligning railcars to the loading stalls.
  • Ensuring track mobile pre-use inspections are completed.
  • Understanding communication protocols between track mobile operator and brakemen (handheld radio & hand signals) to ensure safe operation while moving railcars.
  • Setting handbrakes on railcars to prevent runaway equipment and collision with other railcars or people.
  • Replacing tankcar manway bolts, dome nuts and seal pins; removing and replacing gaskets and inspecting bottom of shear bolts to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Completing lockout/tagout of valves and equipment prior to maintenance on loading equipment.
  • Working with Marketing & Logistics and the Truck Drivers to ensure maximum load limits are achieved based on Transport Canada’s Guidelines.
  • Ensuring trucks are secured and ready for delivery to the customer.
  • Completing transport truck documentation ensuring compliance with Transport Canada and its subsidiaries.
  • Completing Safety Fire Protection Inspections, and Housekeeping Audits.
  • Accurately entering data into the Rail and Truck Loading spreadsheet in order to balance daily and monthly plant production.
  • Participating in the EOS (Everyone Owns Safety) program.
  • Participating in track inspections with qualified track inspector.

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of a High School Diploma coupled with a valid Class 5 Driver's License. Previous experience with railcar loading as well as moving railcars using a track mobile is certainly an asset, as is the relevant safety and Industrial Railway Rail Car Mover Operations Training. This role requires a degree of physical fitness with the ability to lift 50 lbs. You will also need to have experience using hand tools (impact gun and torque wrench), as well as working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

With excellent time management, planning and prioritization skills, you will have the ability to consistently meet identified goals and achieve results.
